Scotland - Speyside Cooperage

Speyside Cooperage makes and repairs casks for many different industries.

Apprentices work 4 years to earn their certification.  Once they have done that, Speyside Cooperage guarantees them employment until they retire.

We took a tour of the cooperage where we were allowed to look down over the work area.  Much of what they do here is refurbish used casks.

The guy in the blue shirt is one of their veteran cask builders.  On April 29, 2017 they held a competition amongst their coopers to see if anyone could beat the world record 190 liter barrel build time of 7 minutes 30 seconds.  The guy in the blue shirt, David McKenzie, made one in 3 minutes 3 seconds

Large barrels on the grounds serve as picnic shelters.  Each contains a picnic table.
