This is a forest fire burning just west of Colorado Highway 69 between Texas Creek and Westcliff. We could see the smoke from Salida and even Fairplay.
We could even see the flames. The roads going west off of Hwy 69 were closed. We did see on Chinook helicopter with a water bucket suspended from its bottom when we were approaching the fire. At this point, I hear the fire has consumed 3000 acres.
