Roughlock Falls Trail

Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is a beautiful but slow drive south of Spearfish, SD.  We took a side road in Savoy to walk the trail to Roughlock Falls.  You can drive to the overlook at the falls but we decided we needed to walk the one mile trail from further down the canyon.

The trail wasn't nearly as steep as I thought it might be.  It was just right for us.

This dam created an area of still water for the fish.  Some of it was at least 8' deep.

The intakes were the water continued downstream.

Looking upstream.

From the viewpoint on the opposite side, we could see that the rocks were covered in moss that the water ran over.

Returning back to the lower parking area, we looked over the wetlands.
