Cairns, Queensland, Australia

After our morning tour around Port Douglas, we took a shuttle bus to Cairns.  This is the view from our hotel room balcony at the Cairns Plaza Hotel.

We ended up using the patio furniture to dry our wet clothes and shoes from the morning's attempt to catch black crabs.

After doing a load of laundry, we headed across the street and ate dinner at an oceanside cafe called Muddy's before heading south on the boardwalk.

The Australian pelican is medium-sized by pelican standards with an average wingspan from 7.5 to 8.5 foot and a weight of 9 to 29 lbs.   They are widespread on the inland and coastal waters of Australia and New Guinea, also in Fiji, parts of Indonesia and as a vagrant in New Zealand. It is a predominantly white bird with black wings and a pink bill, which is on record as the longest bill of any living bird.  It is the second heaviest Australian flying bird species on average, after the brolga (Australian crane).  The cassowary and emu are larger but don't fly.

To save some money and time, we had gone to the grocery store to pick up breakfast and snack items.  I ate this cereal most of the days we were in Australia.
