Duke Homestead - Durham, NC

Since we were in the heart of tobacco county, we thought it was time to learn how the crop was grown and harvested.

The Dukes made cigarettes, pipe tobacco and chewing tobacco

There were four old buildings on site but, since we had met my sister and her family here, I didn't take many photos.  This was the tobacco pack house.

We learned a lot about the old buildings but I saw this item in the old farmhouse.  I figured it was a broom of some sort but it is actually a mop.

After seeing the buildings we went through the visitor center.

I can not believe how small the seed are!

Tobacco has many uses, like as a pesticide, food wrappers and as a potential bio-fuel.
